Library eBooks for TABLETS & iPADS
Friday, Dec. 27, at 3:05 pm
Community Room (lower level). Tablet, iPad & smartphone owners: yes, there is an app for that. In this class we will cover the apps & initial steps necessary to download ebooks:
1. Download the free Overdrive Media Console app from your app store. OverDrive is the default app for the Maine InfoNet Download Library.
2. Create a free Adobe ID. An Adobe ID is required to authorize library ePUB & ePDF ebooks on your device. Note: an Adobe ID is NOT required for Kindle & Kindle app users.
Before the class: please stop by the check out desk to configure your wireless device with the library's wifi signal. Note: this class might start a few minutes after 3:00 as we wrap up from a previous class.
Free apps discussed in this class. Feel free to download them from your appstore before the class.
OverDrive Media Console
Use the OverDrive Media Console (OMC) app to browse for, check out & read library eBooks. Works with ePUB & ePDF formatted eBooks (also plays audiobooks). An Adobe ID is required to use OverDrive.
Some people prefer to read eBooks on the Kindle app instead of the OMC app. It does not require an Adobe ID, so there is one less account to create. On the negative side, the Kindle app only works with Kindle-formatted eBooks (not ePUB or ePDF). After you check out a Kindle-formatted eBook you are taken to Amazon.com to complete the digital loan.
