Library Card and Loan Policies
"How do I get a library card?"
Rockland residents or property owners are eligible for a free card. Rockland property taxes support the operation of the library.
Children who live in the local school district (RSU 13) are also eligible for a free card. Their cards are funded by the Friends of the Rockland Public Library.
Other Maine residents and visitors may purchase a library card. Library users must possess a card to enjoy many library services, such as:
- Requesting from the statewide catalog: 6 million items - books, movies, music & more.
- Downloadable audiobooks
- Access MARVEL databases from home. 1000's of periodicals, as far back as 1975.
- Computer use: 90 min. per day. Internet access and Microsoft Office programs.
Non-resident fees:
- Annual card $25
- 3-month card $15
Required:
Please bring both a photo ID and proof of current address (bill, checkbook, lease agreement, piece of mail) when applying for a library card.
Cardholder responsibilities
- Please bring your card when visiting the library.
- Return items in the same condition in which they were borrowed. A fee will be assessed for
any materials returned damaged. Damage/replacement fees for Interlibrary Loan items are
assessed by the loaning library.
- Notify the library (594-0310) if you lose or misplace your card. A replacement card is $1.
New limit on videos. Up to 10 videos may be checked out at a time.
New limit on interlibrary loans. Up to 15 interlibrary loans may be on a card at a time.
Loan Policy
Loan Period
Books, audio books, etc. 14 days
Videos and DVD's 7 days
-New DVD policy: patrons may have up to 10 DVDs checked out at a time.
Renewals
Materials may be renewed by calling the library, or online using the View Your Record
button.
Late Fees
Books, audio books, etc. .10 per day
Children's books .05 per day
All Videos and DVD's $1.00 per day
Accrued fines over $10 may result in the loss of library privileges.
Holds
Books and other materials that are checked out or on order may be reserved by a
staff member or you can do it yourself from the Card Catalog. You will be notified when the
material is available.
Lost Materials
The borrower will be charged the full cost for lost books, videos, tapes, etc. Accrued
charges for lost materials over $25 may result in the loss of library privileges.
Interlibrary Loans
Books and other library materials not owned by our library may be obtained through an Interlibrary Loan.
Book Drops
Books drops are located at the front of the library for your convenience.
